TWANTE
TWANTE is located in the delta region 9 kilometers (6 miles) outside of Yangon; it is where the "Oh-Bo pottery" market is located. The city can be reached by land or by a boat trip that provides a view of life along the canal. Twante is a center for pottery and hand-woven cotton cloth. The streets are lined with many beautiful pots of different sizes and shapes. Twante is also famous for its 34km long (21 miles) canal running between the Ayeyawady Delta and the Yangon River.
The ShweSandaw Pagoda is one of Myanmar’s four big Pagodas bearing the name “Shwe Sandaw”. As the name suggests these pagodas are the religious movements in which the sacred hairs of Lord Buddha were enshrined. It was built in 1057. Recently the Pagoda was renovated and thanks to a modern motor road and river crossing bridges the Pagoda can be visited from Yangon by a regular bus route in less than an hour.
